Circle - Trainees secure full time employment
04/06/07 Three unemployed Kensington boys have secured full time employment in one full Circle.
Adam Hughes, Liam Harrison and Joey Phinnigan have now secured full time employment with Circle, which provides an alternative, cost effective and environmentally-friendly solution to the disposal of construction waste.
A few months ago all three were taken on as Intermediary Labour Market placements with Liverpool City Council’s Transitional Employment Programme for a 12 week period - as a stepping stone to get them in to work.
The lads all hail from Kensington and prior to working for Circle were all unemployed. They found out about Circle which stands for “Construction Industry Recycling Centre for the Local Environment” whilst taking part in the LCC scheme.
Commenting on his new role, Liam Harrison who at 20 years old is the youngest of the three said: “Enrolling with the Liverpool City Council Transitional Employment programme was one of the best moves I have made. Six months ago I wasn’t working and was in a bit of a rut as I felt I had nothing worthwhile to get out of bed for. I am so grateful for this opportunity because when I enrolled on the programme there was no guarantee I would get a job. So this is a real bonus.
“It is great and has really changed my life. I am earning a wage and have made some great new friends whilst doing something good for the environment – and I don’t even mind the early starts!”
Ben Leech Community Investment Manager from The Riverside Group added: “We are delighted that through Circle we have been able to provide employment opportunities for local people and the news that a further five recruits will join Circle very soon is even more encouraging. Circle is a win win venture because it provides cost savings for its customers, is creating jobs and is benefiting the environment too.”
Circle is a joint venture between leading social housing providers, The Riverside Group, PLUS Housing Group and North West construction company the Seddon Group whose aim is to boost the recycling of construction waste in Liverpool. It provides a commercially viable way of recycling 90% of the waste that would ordinarily be taken to landfill.
